Conductive Keratoplasty
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
(Conductive Keratoplasty) is a procedure that will turn back the hands of time, by giving you the ability to read up close again. CK is for those patients who have never needed glasses before, but are now struggling to read up close. CK gives back your reading vision by using gentle radio waves to reshape your cornea. CK is extremely safe and minimally invasive because no blades or lasers are used during any point in the procedure. This painless procedure, that only takes a few minutes to complete, will dramatically improve your reading vision.

Why do we lose our near vision?
Around the age of 40 your difficulty in focusing on near objects may make you think that your arms are getting shorter as you must hold items further from you to see them clearly. This condition is called presbyopia. The lens inside your eye and the muscles that control the lens do not work as well as they used to for focusing up close.
How Does CK Work?
works by reshaping your cornea so that the light focuses correctly onto your retina. Microscopic probes that emit radio waves (RF energy) are used to heat and shrink corneal tissue, thereby steepening the cornea. This reshaping of the cornea is what improves near vision. Who is a good CK candidate?
You are, if:
| . |
You are over the age of 40. |
| |
| . |
Have had great vision your whole life. |
| |
| . |
Depend on reading glasses to compensate for fading near vision. |
| |
| . |
You have had laser vision correction and are now noticing that your near vision is beginning to fade. |
The Procedure
| Step 1 |
| Topical numbing drops are applied to the eye, ensuring a painless procedure. |
| |
| Step 2 |
A circular treatment pattern is imprinted on the cornea using rinse-away ink to guide the doctor's treatment. |
| |
| Step 3 |
| Using a probe thinner than a strand of human hair, radio waves are applied in a circular pattern to shrink small areas of corneal tissue. |
| |
| Step 4 |
The circular treatment pattern acts like a belt tightening around the cornea, increasing its overall curvature to correct presbyopia. |
